Ronald Carter

Ronald Edward “Newt” Carter, 81, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017.

Born on June 18, 1935, in Mt. Savage, he was the son of the late Edward Henry and Edith Elizabeth (Carter) Carter.

Newt was a graduate of Frostburg State College where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.  He was employed by the Maryland State Highway Administration and Allegany Ballistics Laboratory.  He was Supervisor of Quality Control at Celanese Corporation. Mr. Carter was owner/operator of The Varsity Pub and the Western Maryland Republican Club.

He was an avid fisherman and lover of boats where he spent many hour at Deep Creek Lake, on the Chesapeake Bay and Lake Ontario.  In his youth, he played pony league baseball, Penmar league ball, high school sports and participated in track and field at Frostburg State College.  He was also a member of the Naval Reserves.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Cora Bernice (Rice) Carter; children, Randy Dale Carter and wife Andrea, Rhonda Lee Frankenberry and husband Mike, Bradley Edward Carter and wife Jen and Esther Dee Blank and husband John; grandchildren, Christopher Frankenberry, Jill Bittner and husband Dustin, Lori Wetmore and husband Stewart, Curtis Carter and fiancé Nicole Thomas, Jamie Blank, Carrie Carter and fiancé Mathew Bennett, Rachel Gary and husband Brad, Holly Quinn and  husband Jeff, Bailey Lucero-Carter, Lexie Lucero-Carter and Ava Lucero-Carter; great-grandchildren, Aubree Bittner, Landon Wetmore, Oliver Bittner, Noah Carter and Maggie Quinn; sister, Phyllis Harpold and her husband George; brother James Carter and Carolyn Harold; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, MD, on Thursday, February 2, 2017, from 4-7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations, in Ronald’s name, be made to the Mt. Savage Fire Department, P.O Box 533. Mt. Savage, Maryland 21545.
