Carole Jeanne LaPorta, 86, of Frostburg, went to be with the Lord and rejoined her husband as she passed away peacefully at UMPC Western Maryland on the morning of, November 27, 2025.
Born January 3, 1939, to the late Ken Lowery and Flora Dormio. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Alan Leo LaPorta "Mick".
Jeanne graduated from Beall High in 1956 where she made lifetime friends. She attended Scottie's Beauty School and worked for Dolly Dean in Dolly's Beauty Salon. She had a keen eye for style and fashion which was honed to an art when she went to work for Edna Griffith at Griffith's dress shop of Frostburg. Her sense of style and class carried her to employment with Doug Cook and Jim Poland in eye care. Mom loved the patients she served and was family to many she worked with.
She loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Nova Scotia, Sicily and a river boat cruise on the Danube with her long time friends, Barb Johnson, Marylove Kennedy, and Suzanne Grimes.
In her retirement, Mom never slowed down. She loved being outdoors and enjoyed working in her many gardens with her pal Chip Morehead. Mom enjoyed card club at the senior center in past years and more recently she participated in line dancing and Tai Chi and lunch with her friends after those activities. She and her sister Joie worked with a personal trainer, Terry Dalverny and we are grateful to him for keeping her strong. Rondell Zapf and Fran DeWitt helped mom with IV therapy in more recent days and their care is unmatched. Karen Hamilton was an amazing companion to Mom and we are forever grateful to her. Lennie Stevens enjoyed her friendship throughout the years and has been part of her family.
She adored her husband and is joyfully with him again. She loved her family and was a loving sister to John Lowery and wife Linda, and Joie Rase, and aunt to Kristi Royalty and Karen Boone. She was a fiercely loving mom to her children Mick LaPorta and wife Theresa, and Julie O'Connor and husband John. Her heart beat for them. They returned her love many times over and are only saddened that they don't have more time with her.
Julie and Mick want to thank those people already mentioned as well as her doctor Sheena Buskirk and nurse Paula Baker. Mom's neighbors, Ellen Arnone, Sandy and Larry Burkholder and Paula and Erik Baker were family to us all. Thank you as well to the UPMC Nurses on 7th floor and to the Palliative Care team, Lorri and Dr. Jen. God bless you all. You made the intolerable more peaceful.
Surviving are her son, Michael "Mick" LaPorta and wife Theresa, and daughter, Julie (LaPorta) O'Connor and husband John, all of Frostburg; brother, John Lowery and wife Linda; sister, Joie Rase, also of Frostburg; nieces, Kristi Rase and Karen Boone. She also leaves behind her sweet kitty, Sugar.
