Chapman Scott Richardson "Chap" 86, of Frostburg MD passed away on December 5, 2025 at UPMC hospital in Cumberland MD surrounded by family and friends.
Born on April 28, 1939 in Easton MD he was the oldest son of the late Christopher Chapman & Helen Phillips Richardson of Salisbury, MD. Preceding his death was brother Christopher Thomas Richardson and wife Mary Sue Fallowfield Richardson. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Richardson Towsley of Baltimore MD.
Chap grew up in Sterling/Rock Falls Illinois and enjoyed raising a small herd of purebred cattle on the family farm in Rock Falls IL. He was president of FFA and graduated from Rock Falls high school in 1957. He attended Western Illinois University, moved to Kent County MD and then married Mary Sue Fallowfield of Chestertown on June 17, 1961. He was a member of the National Guard and afterwards started his 17-yr. management career at Montgomery Ward, eventually opening/managing a store in the first mall/Town Center in Charleston, WV in 1984. He then became District Manager for Taylor Rental stores in Baltimore MD and later was recruited to travel the globe working with his brother, who owned an international shoe import business. He concluded his career with 25 years of service for the State of Maryland as a senior employment specialist in Frostburg, and retired on September 30, 2025.
Chap began running in his 40's then transitioned to mountain biking on the Great Allegheny Passage Trail. He enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing and playing racquetball well into his 80's. He loved motorcycle rides with friends and later treated himself to a sporty red convertible to zip around mountain roads. "Chappie" was an avid supporter of his grandchildren, especially in their school and sporting events. He was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Cumberland MD and happily volunteered in activities, especially the Summer Lunch Program. Chap will always be remembered by family and friends for his big heart, his willingness to help family, friends and the recovery community. Chap was also known for his skill of storytelling and incredible catches at the family Turkey Bowls at Thanksgiving.
Surviving in addition to his sister is son Scott William Richardson and partner Patty Wolak McHenry MD; daughter Carol Richardson-Heft and husband Alan Heft of Frostburg MD; two grandchildren, Callie Heft of Nashville TN and Andrew Heft and wife Elizabeth Hawkesworth Littlestown PA and great grandchild, Lincoln Heft.
Funeral Service will be held on January 3, 2026, at 11:30 am at Emmanuel Episcopal Church Cumberland MD. Durst Funeral Home in Frostburg MD is handling arrangements.
