Cynthia Mappin

June 13, 1944 — April 5, 2023

Cynthia Kay Mappin, 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Penn State St. Joseph's Medical Center in Reading, PA.

Born on June 13, 1944, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Cynthia LaVerne (Krause) Rendar and George "Blackie" Rendar. Cynthia was also predeceased by many aunts and uncles but most recently by Maura Ann (Mappin) Dubus.

Cynthia worked as a vocal music teacher in the Allegany County Public School System at Beall High School until her retirement in Maryland. She also taught in the Berks County Public School System until her retirement in Pennsylvania.

Survivng Cynthia is her husband of 55 years, Richard Mappin. She is also survived by two sisters, Roxanne Reuse and husband Bob, LaVale, and Georgette Gajewski and husband Mike, Baltimore; brother-in-law, Merle Charles Mappin, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; cousins, Patricia Petro, Windsor, PA; Kay Castillo, Brownsville, Texas; Father Richard Albarano, Palm Beach, California; Mark Nightingale, Frostburg; Brian Nightingale, Beaufort, South Carolina, and Deborah LeDoux, Birmingham, Alabama; nephews, Christopher Moderacki, Baltimore; Casey Mappin and nieces, Ashley Sopcheck and Alana Mappin, all of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and grand nieces and nephew, Emily, Erica and Gary Sopcheck.

There will be a private family viewing.

A graveside service will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg, MD on Wednesday, April 12, 2022 at 12:00 P.M. with Pastor Chris Skidmore officiating.

in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Allegany County Animal Shelter or the Berks County Humane Society.

The family wishes to thank all of the staffs of Tower Health Reading Hospital, Penn State St. Joseph's Medical Center and Compassus for the excellent care they gave to Cynthia during this difficult time.
