David M. Yates, 66, of Frostburg, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at home.

Born on December 13, 1946 in Frostburg, he was the son of Thelma Yates and the late David O. Yates.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susie (Struntz) Yates; three sons, Eric Yates, Eckhart; Scott Yates and Jeremy Yates, Frostburg; and his brother, John William Yates, Mt. Airy.  Also surviving are two grandchildren, Austyn and Jenna; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, nieces and nephews.

A 1965 graduate of Beall High School, Dave was a journeyman electrician, having completed an electrical apprenticeship with Local 307 IBEW.  He was employed as an electrician at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, Cumberland, MD and the Owens-Corning Fiberglass Roofing Plant, Jessup, MD.  He was last employed at North Branch Correctional Institution, Cresaptown, MD.

Dave was a life member of the Frostburg Area Ambulance Service and the Clarysville Volunteer Fire Department. He served as a member of the Army Reserves from 1966-1972 and was a member of the American Legion Post 0024.

In accordance with his wishes, Dave’s body will be cremated and will be interred at a later date.  Durst Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Family and friends will be received at the Shaft Volunteer Fire Department at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Shaft, Frostburg, or Clarysville Volunteer Department or to the Frostburg Area Ambulance Service.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Jesus Tan, Dawn Snyder, C.R.N.P. of the WMHS CHF Clinic; the WMHS Home Hospice Services, especially Ann Porter and Barb Simmons. A special thanks goes to Elaine Davis, who assisted with Dave’s care during his final days.
