Donald Davis

April 18, 1934 — June 19, 2021

Donald Ellsworth “Pete” Davis, 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 19, 2021 surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 18, 1934 at the Davis Farm in Shaft, MD to the late Willie “Ryer” Davis and Eunice Mae (Dudley) Davis.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother William Davis and an infant sister Wanda.

Pete graduated from the Beall High School class of 1952. From 1953 to 1956 he served in the U.S. Army at a cook. When he returned home he worked as a brick layer for Jess Fuller, then started to work at PPG from 1957 until his retirement in 1975.

Pete served on the Frostburg Fire Department for over fifty years and had the honor of receiving fireman of the year award in 1971. Many of those years were served as president. He was also the dispatcher for the Frostburg Area Ambulance for over 30 years. A life time member of the American Legion Farrady Post #24, past Exalted Ruler of the Frostburg Elks Lodge #470, where he worked behind the scenes as a cook and became known as Mr. Elk throughout the community. Pete was also a member of the previous Frostburg Moose Lodge #348 and Frostburg Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years Cecelia Anne Shirley Davis; children, Richard D. Davis and wife Patsy of Florida, Joseph W. Davis of Frostburg, Jennifer M Cox and husband Steve of Washington State; grandson, Oren Cox; sister, Patricia Kelly and Husband James of Frostburg; nephews, William “Buzzy” Davis and wife Lisa of Shaft, Brian Kelley of Cumberland; a special aunt, Alvenia “Beanie” Koppel, and numerous cousins

The family would like to thank the Home Hospice Health care workers of WMHS, especially Kerrie Farris, Theresa Diez, Beverly and Lisa.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
