Donald "Rich" Lowery

Donald Richard “Rich” Lowery, of Mount Savage, MD died on February 11, 2022 at UPMC in Cumberland surrounded by his family.

Rich was born June 4, 1939 in Ellerslie, MD. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy A. Lowery and Dorothy (Hosselrode) Lowery and his brothers, Vernon and Jack Lowery.

After graduating from Mt Savage High School, Rich worked for several years at the GC Murphy Company before working at the Kelly Springfield Tire Plant for nearly 20 years before the plant closed. He retired from the Allegany School Board, where he worked with special needs students.

Rich was an active member of the Mt Savage community, organizing and coaching several adult and youth sports leagues and teams. He loved sports as a player, coach, and spectator. He coached many area teams in softball, soccer, baseball, and basketball. He was sweet-tempered, kind, and never met a stranger, always finding someone to talk with wherever he went. He was a member of the Kennels Mill and Piney Mountain sportsman club.

More than anything, Rich loved his family and spent a lot of time with them. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy “Dot” Lowery, his three children: Tawny Lowery and husband Johnny Brant; Terri Lowery and husband Bill Trozzo; and Todd Lowery and wife Treva. He is also survived by his five grandsons: Andrew Delaney and Tonya, Josh Delaney and Jenna, Jake Kincer and Katie, Alex Lowery, and Aiden Lowery and great grandchildren Alivia, Olivia, and Lucas, as well as several sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and family friends.

Funeral services will be private.
