Earl F. Wilhelm, 85, of Frostburg, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014, at the WMHS Regional Medical Center in Cumberland, MD.
Born December 3, 1928, in Frostburg, MD, he was the son of the late James Wilhelm and Nora (Foley) Wilhelm.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Mary (Marion) Wilhelm; son, Troy Christopher Wilhelm; three sisters, Nora Villa, Olive Weimer and Louise Robeson; five brothers, Gerald, Aubrey, Joseph, Donald and Robert Wilhelm. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Earl was a graduate of the Beall High School class of 1946. He was a veteran and was stationed in Germany from 1953-1956. He retired, after 38 years, from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company where he worked in Quality Control Department.
After his retirement, Earl enjoyed wood working, helping his wife Mary with her ceramic business, yearly trips to Florida where he met many lifelong friends, and watching movies and reading about World War II. In his home, either in the kitchen or on the porch, you would find many people enjoying a laugh, a crazy story or a picnic. No matter who they were or where they came from, everyone was welcome. Through the years, there were many that came and if he liked them, they would get a nickname.
Surviving are his wife, Doris (Tomlinson) Wilhelm; sons, Dale Wilhelm of Cumberland, Gregory Wilhelm of Jacksonville, FL, and Brian Wilhelm and fiancé Cyrena Bingaman of Hagerstown, MD; a special niece and caretaker, Jerryetta Wilhelm of Frostburg, a great niece and godchild Tina Haller of Potomac Park, and “grandkids” Alex (Al) Fram of Cumberland, who was his special girl and Christopher Fram of Potomac Park. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews to whom he was affectionately known as “Uncle Earl.”
