Effie Mae Hughes, 89, of Mount Savage, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, surrounded by her family.
Effie was born on May 18, 1927 in Mount Savage. She was the daughter of the late John and Eva (Frankenberry) Shaffer. In addition to her parents, Effie was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles L. Hutzell; three brothers, James, Edward and Harold Shaffer; and one son, David Eugene Hutzell.
Effie was retired from Nikki’s Blouse Factory in Cresaptown. She was a loving and supportive wife and mother. Effie loved playing cards and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates. She also loved all animals, especially her grand dog, Lacey.
She is survived by her husband of fifty one years, George H. Hughes; sister, Mary Dot Bryson; sisters-in-law, Betty Shaffer and Helen Blank; children, James L. Hutzell and wife Sue, Sharon L. Snyder and husband Gary, Linda K. Sullivan and husband Skip, Chuck R. Hutzell and wife Debbie, Cobey Hughes and partner Dwayne, daughter-in-law, Rhonda Hutzell; and stepson Steve Hughes. Effie also is survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Interment will be in in Mt. Savage United Methodist Cemetery. will be grandsons Andy, Scott, Eric, Jason, Jon, Marc, Shawn and Aaron.
The family would like to thank Hospice workers Sheila, Kirsten and the rest of the crew for taking such good care of Effie.
