Estella Howsare

Estella Mae Howsare

78, of Frostburg, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017, at WMHS Nursing and Rehab Center, after a serious illness of three years.

Born on September 6, 1938, in Mt. Savage, she was the daughter of the late Herbert “Tates” and Minnie (Nicodemus) Stevens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Hice and brothers, Jack Stevens and Tom Stevens.

Mrs. Howsare was a member of the Shaft United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She was a member of the Shaft Church Women’s Society and was also a member of the Shaft Volunteer Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary.

In earlier years, she loved and cared for 23 foster babies waiting for adoption. Her joy was spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren, reading her Bible and doing word searches.  She and her husband Leonard, loved to travel and visited all 50 states. She was a behind the scenes person, but would do anything for anyone in need.

Surviving are her loving husband of 60 years, Leonard Howsare; daughter, Kathy Skidmore and husband Chris, of Shaft; sons, Leonard E. Howsare, Jr. and wife Karen, LaVale, and William B. Howsare and wife Jana, Berlin, PA; grandchildren, Emily Howsare, Joshua Howsare, Jenny Harrison and husband Aaron, Sarah Ford and Ryan, Ethan Howsare and Logan Howsare; great-grandchildren, Mariah Lowery, Samuel, Hannah and Gabriel Harrison; brothers, William Stevens, Keymore, and Robert Stevens and wife Alice, Mt. Savage; numerous in-laws and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Shaft United Methodist Church, 19304 Shaft Road, Frostburg, MD 21532, on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

Funeral services will be held at the church on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Leonard Howsare, Jr. and Chris Skidmore officiating; a visitation will be held one-hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Frostburg Memorial Park

Pallbearers will be Brian Sigler, Greg Sigler, Jeremiah Howsare, William B. Howsare, Leonard Howsare, Jr., Harold Skidmore and Chris Skidmore. Honorary pallbearers will be William Stevens and Robert Stevens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations, in Mrs. Howsare’s name, be made to the Shaft United Methodist Church Mission Fund, 19304 Shaft Road SW, Frostburg, MD 21532.

“Please do not weep for me, for I am with my Lord and Savior.”
