George Raymond Pugh, 79, of Eckhart, MD, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 15, 2024 surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Born on April 24, 1945 in Frostburg, MD, he was the son of the late George R. and Rae (Thomas) Pugh. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas Pugh.
George graduated from Beall High School, class of 1963, and went on to earn his degree from Catonsville Community College. He was an Army veteran who served our nation both stateside and overseas. George retired from the Defense Department in December 2000, after 36 years of federal service. He took all his civic responsibilities seriously, especially the importance of voting, which he instilled in his children and grandchildren.
George and his wife Nancy (Nelson) enjoyed nearly 60 years together. They raised three daughters and provided a solid foundation of faith, family, and service. George's family was the light and joy of his life, and he was the most enthusiastic and often loudest supporter for his seven grandchildren in their many activities, whether sporting events, artistic performances, school recognitions, or church celebrations.
George loved being social, finding many opportunities to meet new friends. He played golf every Tuesday as a member of the senior "Grasshoppers" golf league. He also played golf several days a week with Dave, Norm, Earl, and Foster. He enjoyed duckpin bowling, playing cards and board games, and going on the annual men's "river trip." George took pride in his yard, taking great care of his lawn, shrubs, and flower gardens. He was a dedicated blood donor, giving over 10 gallons of blood during his life.
George belonged to Divine Mercy Parish and faithfully attended 8am Mass each Sunday at St. Michael's Church until he became too ill.
George is survived by his wife, Nancy and his three daughters, Stacey and husband Vince Jarvie (Millville, DE); Stephanie and husband Paul Marchbank (Frostburg, MD); Georgia and husband Reed Coats (Kennett Square, PA); and seven grandchildren, Aaron and Meghan Jarvie, Lizzie and Olivia Marchbank, and Owen, Cassie, and Cooper Coats, who all brought him many smiles and a lot of giggles. He is also survived by two brothers, Norman Pugh and wife Maureen, and Stephen Pugh and wife Sandra; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Schwab Cancer Center, especially Katie, Susan, Jennifer, and Adam. In addition, a thank you to UPMC Hospice staff, especially Stephanie, for the care of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
