Geraldine "Gerry" Catherine Ultis, 96, of Finzel, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, April 13, 2026. Born on April 6, 1930, she was the beloved daughter of the late Genevieve (Layman) and William "Ed" Raley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Ultis; her siblings, Gladys Warfle, Betty Fresh, Paul Raley, Edward "Eddie" Raley, and William "Bill" Rice. As the last surviving member of her immediate family, Gerry carried with her the stories and memories of those who came before her. She never forgot a single thing, and could tell stories for hours.
Gerry loved to sit and watch the birds and tend to her flowers, finding peace and joy in the beauty of nature. You could often find her walking around her yard or in the woods, which she lovingly referred to as the Everglades. She also worked at the Flushing Shirt Company in Grantsville where she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication.
Though she will be deeply missed, her life stands as a beautiful reminder of the importance of love and family. Her memory will be treasured always and we find comfort knowing she is at peace in the arms of Jesus.
Gerry held her family close above all else. Surviving are only son and light of her life, Bill, and wife Brenda (Marker) Ultis. Gerry has four grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Taylor and Steven Holtschneider, Mikala and Austin Lee, Chesni and Matthew McKenzie, and Ty Ultis with girlfriend Jenna Yommer. Additionally, Gerry has two great-grandchildren: Seneca McKenzie and Kyler Lee. Lastly, Gerry is survived by multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who she loved very much.
Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, MD on Wednesday April, 15, 2026 from 2 to 3:00. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 with Pastor Bruce McBride officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Gerry's name to Eastern Garrett County Fire Department who were always there anytime she called.
