Glenn Hanna

October 17, 1925 — September 28, 2018

Glenn Ulysses “Speed” Hanna, 92, of Frostburg, went to be with his Lord on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Sterling Care of Frostburg Village.

Born October 17, 1925, in Akron, Ohio to Ulysses Hanna and Ethlyn (Hughes) Hanna. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances (Middleton) Hanna; son-in-law, Kerry N. Livingston; sister, Betty Ann Hanna; brother, Arthur Hanna; father-in-law, Alonzo Middleton; mother-in-law, Frances Fannie (Filer) Middleton; brothers-in-law, Gerald Middleton and Lionel Middleton; and nephews, Craig Middleton and Mark Middleton.

Speed was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from Allegany County School System as the Supervisor of Pupil Personnel, formerly a Physical Education teacher and basketball coach. He graduated from Beall High School, Penn State University, and University of Maryland.

Speed was a founding member of Maplehurst Country Club, and former member of Frostburg Fire Department, a member of Farrady Post American Legion #24, Mountain Lodge AF & AM #99, Ali Ghan Shrine, BPOE #470 and Moose Lodge#348.

He favored time with his family especially when they would travel to Deep Creek Lake. There he would collude with Jim Reidler in subjecting their families to pranks and contests.

Speed earned his nickname as an avid sportsman in many sports such as baseball, bowling, basketball and golfer who on three occasions scored the once in a lifetime achievement of a “hole in one”.  After his retirement he and Frances golfed through the winters in Florida had many visits to Florida and they relished in their many trips to Las Vegas with friends.

After the death of his wife Frances, he was fortunate to find love again. He and Mary adored one another’s company and taking part in many activities together

Throughout his life Speed truly appreciated time with his golfing and card club buddies.

Surviving are companion, Mary DeCarlo; sons; G. Gary Hanna and fiancé, Jemma Crowe and Bruce Hanna and wife, Terri; daughter, Cindy Livingston, all of Frostburg; six grandchildren, Lindsay Sullivan and husband, Ian, Jordan Hanna and Melissa Mullenax, Carly Hanna, Kerry J. Livingston, Hanna Livingston and Dr. Melody Kentrus and husband Dr. Ryan Kentrus; eight great grandchildren, Kallie, Sullivan, Kilahni, Kylie, Kiara, Kaleb, Kaden and Lucas; sister-in-law, Betty Thompson Middleton, and cousin, Mary Reidler and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, MD on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at Durst Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Rev. David Sandvick officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Matt DeCarlo, Jordon Hanna, Kerry J. Livingston, Dr. Ryan Kentrus, George Reidler, and Louis Wehler.

Military Honors will be accorded by Farrady Post #24 American Legion Honor Guard.
