Hattie Jean Brode, 94 years old went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. She died at UPMC Western Maryland Hospital. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.
Born December 26, 1927 in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late Vincent Josiah & Bella Mae (Holsinger) Engle of Rose Meadow Farm, Eckhart. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Philip (Bill) F. Brode, and her daughter Tamara (Tammy) Brode Bradley. She is survived by her son, Philip F. Brode, III.
Hattie was a life-long member of the Eckhart United Methodist Church. She was a 1946 graduate of Beall High School.
After Beall High, Hattie worked as cashier at F. W. Woolworth and G. C. Murphy’s Frostburg and was bookkeeper for Glen Savage Dairy, Mt. Savage. Then, after raising her children, she was a part-time employee at the Frostburg State University bookstore until 2006.
Hattie was secretary/treasurer of the Friendly Bible Class and a member of the Helping Hands Society at her church. In addition, she was director of the Allegany County Farm Bureau men’s & women’s committee and past treasurer for many years. She was an active member of the women’s auxiliary of the American Legion as color bearer. Hattie loved volunteering at church dinners & events, the American Red Cross bloodmobile & the school box-lunch program.
Friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, MD on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 from 9-11 AM. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM with Rev. Harpold officiating. Interment will be in the Porter Cemetery at Rose Meadow – Eckhart.
