Helen Chaney

Helen Margaret “Sissy” (Warne) Chaney , 95, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018, at Frostburg
Village Assisted Living.

Born on May 24, 1922, in Avilton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Florence (McKenzie) Warne.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, William Charles Chaney; brothers, LeRoy and Everett Warne; and nephew Michael Warne.

Helen graduated from St. Michael’s School in 1937 and Beall High School in 1941.  She retired after 23 years of service at Celanese Corporation where she worked as an analyst in the main laboratory.  She was also employed by H&R Block Co. as a tax preparer for 10 years. She was a lifetime member of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, in Frostburg.

Surviving are her brother, Russel Warne of Pocohontas, PA; sister, Anna Darlene Poorbaugh of the Meadow View Nursing Home, Berlin, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, MD, on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, from 2-4 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 44 E. Main Street, Frostburg, on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at 10 am with Father Eric Gauchat, O.F.M. Cap, serving as Celebrant.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations, in Mrs. Chaney’s name, be made to Divine Mercy Parish, 44 E. Main Street, Frostburg, MD 21532.

The family is thankful for the love, care and support of the staff at Frostburg Village Assisted Living and the Hospice Care of the WMHS.
