With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our dear sister, aunt, and friend; Karen Marie Snyder, who died on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown West Virginia, after a brave battle with a rare autoimmune condition.
Born May 14, 1950, to the late Allan and Ida Mae (Brown) Snyder. She was preceded in death by her sister Linda Yates brothers Gary Snyder and Larry Snyder.
Karen graduated from Mount Savage High School in 1968 and continued her education, graduating from Allegany Community College and Frostburg State University. Karen worked very hard to earn those degrees and was the first in her family to graduate from college.
Karen retired from the Thomas B. Finan Center after 32 years of outstanding service as stated in a certificate she was awarded by then Governor Martin O’Malley.
Aunt Sissy to her nieces and nephews, she was always there for a good time with them. She may not have spoiled them, but they were well loved. She also got to enjoy the next generation of kids after her retirement by having them come for sleepovers and pool parties.
Surviving is her brother Allan Snyder, Jr. and wife Peggy, and sisters-in-law Sharon and Roxann Snyder, nieces and nephews Jeff Snyder, Jennifer Delaney, Scott Snyder, Renee Snyder, Trissa Myers and Bobby Snyder. She is also survived by very special friends Sharon Bogard, Gina Niewodowski and Dan Del-Montey.
Karen was a Methodist by faith.
Karen has resided at The Egle House Memory Care Assisted Living for the past two and a half years where she was the light of all who got to know her. We would like to express our heart-felt gratitude to Gayle Durst and her staff for the excellent care they provided for Karen. Also, our thanks go out to the staff at Ruby Memorial ICU and Hospice for keeping Karen comfortable the last few days of her life.
Family and friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, on Tuesday August 12, 2025, from 10 AM to Noon. A service will follow with Pastor Barry Winters officiating.
