Kathleen Hott

Kathleen (Kate) LaRue Hott, 87, of Mount Savage, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at UPMC Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born July 27, 1937, to the late Harry W. Martz and Nellie (Scritchfield) Martz. In addition to her parents she is preceded by her husband of 70 years James A. Hott, her son Darrin Martz Hott, sisters Phyllis Barncord and Bernice Poleski.

Kate was a member of the Mount Savage Methodist Church and Eastern Star.

She is survived by her daughter Tracy L Carney and husband Mark; son, James Eric Hott both of Frostburg, Md; grandchildren Laureen and Danielle Hott., She is survived by one sister AliceFaye Leydig, Hyndman, PA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews.

Family and Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, on Monday May 12, 2025 from 11 am to 1 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home, on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 1 pm, with Rev. Barry Winters officiating.

Kate had many talents especially when it came to cooking. She volunteered for many years at the Mt. Savage Fire Hall's Friday night dinners. Later on she worked for a bakery in South Cumberland where she created numerous types of pies, cakes, and cookies. While working at the bakery she met Mike Wotring and eventually she became a floral designer for Flowerland.

Over the years Kate and Mike became close friends and Kate considered Flowerland her

second family. It was her love and passion to create beautiful arrangements for people.

In the Mt. Savage community Kate is probably remember best for her beautiful homemade cookies she created at Christmas. Numerous families in Mt. Savage and surrounding communities enjoyed her cookie trays on their holiday tables. Her cookies were truly a work of art. As a child I can remember tray after tray stacked high in the living room waiting to be picked up by families for their Christmas celebration.

Easter time was another memorable time for our family when Kate created her peanut butter and coconut eggs that I am sure were in many of the Easter baskets in town.

As Kate and Jimmy got older they enjoyed going to her sister's camp in North Carolina where they spent most of the summer. Kate and Jimmy loved to steam blue crabs and then pick the fresh crab meat to be used later for her Christmas dinner.

Kate's husband Jimmy was probably remembered best for this homemade sauerkraut that he would make and delivered to many community members for their Thanksgiving dinner. What many didn't know is that Kate was the taster and would tell Jimmy when he could bag and deliver the sauerkraut.

Kate loved her sister Alicefaye who she found great comfort and joy especially, when they were canning every and anything that they could get in a jar. I believe this was when Kate's was the happiest.

For my brothers and I we experienced many wonderful childhood memories. The aroma

throughout our home, the memories of wonderful food and family celebrations.

The family would like to thank the Mt. Savage ambulance services for all the help and trips to the hospital. Rev.Barry Winters for being here for the entire Hott Family and the Mountainside ministry for their hardwork and dinner preparations for my brother, father and mother this year.
