Kathryn Broadwater

Kathryn Elizabeth (McPartland) Broadwater , 76, of Frostburg, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015, with her daughter and sister by her side.*

Born on November 11, 1939, in Frostburg, Kate was the daughter of the late James and Nellie McPartland.  She was also preceded in death by her husband M. Wayne Broadwater and her son, Richard Brennan Rising.

Kate was a 1957 graduate of Valley High School, and a 1960 graduate of St. Agnes School of Nursing, Baltimore, MD.  She worked as a registered nurse at Seton Institute and Stanford University Hospital before completing her more than 30 year career as a surgical nurse in the operating room at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Kate’s greatest joy was watching her grandsons play sports and attending nearly every football, basketball, and baseball game in which they were involved.  She loved reading and traveling.  She also enjoyed shopping and dining out with friends and family.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Strietbeck and husband Chip, with whom she resided, and grandsons, Daniel Strietbeck and Michael Strietbeck.  She is also survived by her sister, Rita Gillum and husband Gary, as well as nieces, Renee White and husband Eddie, and Gwen Rossini and husband John; great nieces and nephews, Ryland, Virginia, and Presley White and Megan Rossini.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Rest Assured Residential Living and Hospice Care facility, her physician, Dr. Moen and the many friends who visited and comforted her throughout her illness.

Friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, on Friday, December 18, 2015, from 10 to 11 a.m.  Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Jennifer Webber officiating.
