LeEsta Skidmore

LeEsta M. Blank Skidmore, 87, of Leesburg, FL., formerly of Frostburg, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at AdventHealth-Waterman Hospital in Taveres, FL, after a brief, unexpected illness. Born February 22, 1932 in Borden, she was the daughter of the late Ralph L. “Fritz” Blank and Ida Mae (Williams) Blank.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl D. Skidmore; her son, Carl D. Skidmore, Jr.; and her sister Donna Rosenberger.

LeEsta was the mother of eight children; Kenneth and wife Dorothy Martin, of Uba City, CA, Dennis and wife Connie Martin, of LaVale, MD, Deborah Bolt, of Buffalo Mills, PA, Larry Martin, of Buffalo Mills, PA, Michael (Tim) and wife Tecora, of Spokane, WA, Brenda and husband Patrick Ostinowsky, of Jacksonville, FL, Tracie and husband Dana Plish, of St. Augustine, FL, and Daughter-in-Law, Theresia Skidmore, Jacksonville, FL (Carl D. Skidmore, Jr.)

LeEsta was the proud grandmother of 14; Dennis, Melissa, Thomas, Julie, Sarah, Holly, Kerri, Jeffrey, Joseph, Ilea, Danielle, Jason, Andrew and Timothy and great-grandmother of 18. She also had numerous nieces and nephews.

Surviving are her cherished sisters; Shirley Atkinson, Frostburg, MD, Brenda LePre, Frostburg, MD and Marsha Blank, Olney, MD.  She left behind a sister-in-law, Lois Matese and husband John, and many special friends including her dear friend Cindy Yilmaz whom she cherished like a daughter.

LeEsta put her faith and family above all and was dearly loved and cherished by her large family.  She had an unmatched zest for life and lived out her dreams with her one true love, Carl.  One of her fondest chapters of her life was her retirement years that were spent traveling and exploring the country with her husband of 30 years who adoringly referred to her as his “Babycakes”.  LeEsta was known for her kind hospitality and her delicious home cooking for family, friends, and all who entered her home.

She was cremated upon her request.  Visitation will be held at Durst Funeral Home in Frostburg, MD on October 12th from 12:00 – 2:00 followed by a memorial service.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that in honor of LeEsta’s sister Shirley all donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America at alzfdn.org.
