Lionel Arthur “Lunk” Norris, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at Sterling Care at Frostburg Village.
Born on August 8, 1925, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Arthur M. and Rhea M. (Phillips).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Norris and wife Edith (Gracie) Norris and his sister, Eleanor Dishong and husband Harry.
Lionel graduated from Beall High School in 1943. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Lunk retired from the United States Postal Service and after retirement worked at Durst Funeral Home.
Lunk was a former member of Frostburg Elks 470, Frostburg Moose 348 and Farrady Post 24 American Legion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and he looked forward to his Thursday night poker games. Special thanks go to Jim Shertzer for picking him up and taking him home so that he was able to play with his friends, and also to his other dear friend John Horn. He loved baseball games, especially the Yankees.
Surviving are his children Deanna Hughes and husband Jim, Lynn Norris and wife Cindy, Sharon McCoy and husband Chris and their mother, his friend, Betty Norris; grandchildren JoAnna Hughes and wife Nicole and Averie and Heather McCoy; nephews, John “Jack” Dishong and David “Butch” Norris; nieces, who were very special to him, Mary Beth Pirolozzi and Susan Dishong.
Due to Covid-19, a Memorial Service will be held at a later date when all his family can attend.
