Louis Spataro

December 20, 1937 — January 8, 2019

Louis J. Spataro, 81, passed away on Tuesday, January 08, 2019, at the WMHS Regional Medical Center.

Born on December 20, 1937, in Zihlman, he was the son of the late Anthony and Nora (Johns) Spataro.

In addition to his parents, Lou was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Anna Yvonne (Robertson) Spataro; and two special grandsons, Todd and Nicholas Garlitz.

He was a 1956 graduate of Mt. Savage High School. He joined the Frostburg National Guard in 1954 and the 29th Infantry Division, Company D, from 1957 to 1959.  He was stationed in West Germany with the 1st Missile Battalion, 38th Artillery. He attained the rank of Sergeant. Lou was employed with the Celanese Corporation and retired from ABL in 2002.

He was active in softball and played for City Slow Pitch, was a longtime bowler and was a member of the Bowling Association and the American Bowling Congress.  He also enjoyed hitting a few golf balls with his buddies.

Surviving are daughter Kelly Lynn (Spataro) Garlitz and husband Bernie, Frostburg; son Christopher Lon Spataro and wife Lorrie, Hyndman; grandsons Ryan Garlitz and wife Maggie and Logan Spataro; great-granddaughter Sawyer Garlitz; sister Rachel; and brothers Anthony, Robert, Art and James.

In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Spataro will be cremated and there will be no services.

Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery on Saturday, January 12, 2019.  Anyone wishing to attend, please gather at Durst Funeral Home by 12:30 pm.
