Marc Routhier

August 5, 1951 — March 4, 2016

Dr. Marc Edmond Routhier, 64, of Frostburg, died Friday, March 04, 2016 at Frostburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born August 5, 1951 in Manchester, New Hampshire to the late George and Lucille (Guyer) Routhier. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Martin.

Marc grew up in Laconia, NH where he loved to hike the mountains; he received his BA from University of New Hampshire and MA and Ph.D. from University of Denver.

Dr. Routhier provided illustrious service to the Frostburg State College/University community over the years.  Some of the more prominent positions included; President of the Faculty Assembly (1983), Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee and Senate Steering Committee (1990), member of the Presidential Search Committee and editor of the “Academic Affairs Policies and Procedures Manual” (1991), six years as Chair of the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts during the early-to-mid 90’s, several years as Assistant Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; multiple years as a Co-Advisor to Student Government Association; and in 2006, he began service as Co-Chair of the Steering Committee and Chair of the Working Group on Organization and Governance for Middle States Re-Accreditation Self Study.

Marc’s community involvement included being a multi-gallon blood donor and playing a prominent role in producing the television public service announcement that earned the Allegany Chapter of the American Red Cross the national “Communication Excellence Award”. One of the most fulfilling community service activities was his and wife, Riitta’s years as the trainers of coaches and athletes for the Special Olympics Winter Games held at Wisp Resort.

Surviving are his wife, Riitta Kanerva; Ritta’s children, Laura Dubansky and husband Emmett and Max Dubansky and wife Katharine; grandchildren, Grace, Leon, Iris, Ellie and Tessa; sisters, Lisa and Denise and their families.

Durst Funeral Home was entrusted with his wishes of cremation with no service.
