Patricia Smith

January 27, 1947 — March 27, 2018

Patricia Ann Smith

of Frostburg passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at her home after a long courageous battle with cancer.  Pat was born in Frostburg on January 27, 1947, the daughter of the late Harry H. Snyder and Hazel (Walbert) Snyder.

Pat was a proud graduate of Beall High School class of 1965.  Pat worked at the Fidelity Bank which became Mercantile Bank and finally PNC Bank.  She was a Baptist by faith and attended Frostburg Church of the Brethern.

Pat is survived by her husband of 33 years, Elmer Smith, daughter Deborah Denise Schulten-Fazenbaker and husband Joe, grandson and love of her life Michael Schulten, sister Shareen Crabtree and partner Mitch Welsh, five nephews Steven Crabtree, James Emerick, Shawn Smith, Jason Smith and Ryan Smith, three nieces Lory Gordon, Kathy Jewell and Nancy Boyce.

Pat was a caring and giving person all her life.  During the Vietnam War Pat was a member of the National League of  POW-MIA families that worked for the release of all prisoners and recoverable remains of those who died serving our nation.  Pat supported many of these families throughout her life.  After the war she attended many meetings of the Cumberland chapter of the Vietnam Veterans.

Pat was a ham radio operator who aided during the Johnstown flood and later helped with the cleanup after the West Virginia flood of 1985.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Internationl Sorority, and Gephart School PTA where she and Judy DeHart painted the school restrooms with characters from the Wizard of Oz.  She taught Sunday School at Welsh Baptist Church.  She was very supportive of Dixon Dance Studio.

While working at the Fidelity Bank Pat became a member of the board of the Vicki Via Dotson Foundation and helped plan and put on the annual Celebrity Golf tournament that raised thousands of dollars for Leukemia research and supported many local families whose children had that terrible disease.

Pat was very involved with the Miss America Pageant system.  She was a board member for Miss Allegany/Garrett Pageant, the Miss Cumberland Pageant, and she was co-executive director for the Miss Allegany County Pageant, all local pageants for Miss Maryland.  She spent many evenings and weekends individually training pageant participants.

For many years Pat was the director of the Miss Chili Pepper Pageant for the Ali Ghan Shrine Chili Cookoff. For all her community service Pat was rewarded in 1988 the Fidelity Bank Pride and Community Service Award.

Pat served one year as Worthy Matron of Mountain Chapter 15 Order of Eastern Star.  She was also a member of the Ladies of the Elks and a twenty five year member of Farrady Unit 24 of the American Legion.

Pat was a faithful follower of Beall High School and Mountain Ridge football and was known for her loud cow bell.  She cheered on her grandson, Michael, through peewee and youth football.

The family would like to thank  Dr. Mohammed  Almubarak and his staff for their care of Pat during her illness, WMHS Hospice care and family friends who assisted with her final care.

The family requests memorial contributions be directed to the Mary Babb Cancer Center at West Virginia University or the Schwab Cancer Center at Western Maryland Hospital.
