Philip Whetstone

Philip Croft Whetstone, 81, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the WMHS Frostburg Nursing and Rehab.

Born on June 5, 1936, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Peter and Anna Belle (Brode) Whetstone.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter Carolyn Griffin and brother

Robert Whetstone and was the last member of his immediate family.

Philip was retired from Kelly Springfield. He was a Life Member of the Piney Mountain, Barrelville and Cumberland Outdoor Clubs. Mr. Whetstone was a member of the Cumberland First Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Mary Ann (Sacco) Whetstone; children, Beth Frischmann and husband Randy, Tennessee, Philip C. Whetstone and wife Shari, Westernport, Michael J. Whetstone and friend Tammy Shockey, Frostburg, Ann Carroll and husband Dave, Cumberland and John T. Connelly, Jr, North Carolina, Diane Loibel and husband Eric, LaVale, Karen Edwards and husband Joe, Frostburg, and Kathy Connelly and fiancé Russ Cutter, Frostburg; special grandchildren were Shawna Whetstone, Emily Edwards, Noah Loar and Sophia Edwards, and other numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and three close friends, Wesley Loar, David Haines and Leroy Witt, Sr.

Philip was cremated in accordance with his wishes.

A memorial service will be held at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, MD, on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 1 pm, with Pastor Steve Monington and Pastor Gary Barkley officiating. Friends will be received from 11-1 prior to the service.

Following the service, a luncheon and social will be held at City Place.
