It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert James MacDonald, beloved son, brother, and friend, who departed this life on Saturday, August 8th at the age of 65. Born on May 8, 1961, Robert lived a life marked by passion, dedication, and an unwavering love for the outdoors.
Robert was a proud graduate of Beall High School in 1979 and earned his Bachelor of Art's Degree from Frostburg State University in 1985. He dedicated his professional life to the American Iron and Steel Institute, where he served as the Director of Statistics, and was a linchpin for the institute and its members.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robert was an avid cyclist, often found on the pedals, enjoying the scenic trails and roads of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. He proudly competed multiple times in the "Assault on Mount Mitchell," a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for challenge. In his quieter moments, he found solace in tending to both his garden and the gardens of his family, spending hours expressing his care for his loved ones by nurturing plants and shaping beautiful spaces.
Robert is survived by his parents, John and Constance "Connie" (Rephann) MacDonald; his sister, Beth MacDonald and husband Jamie Daniel; nephews, Mac and Lee Daniel; niece, Anna Daniel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Red Cross, Home Fire Campaign. https://raise.redcross.org/fundraiser/7446253
As we remember Robert, let us find comfort in our shared love for him and in the warmth of our memories. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
