Sylvia Barnett

Sylvia S. Barnett, 88, passed away on May 17, 2016 at Egle Nursing & Rehab Care Center, Lonaconing, MD.

Born on September 11, 1927, in Midlothian, she is the daughter of the late Thomas Parker and Lena W. (Brain) Simmons.  In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Paul William Barnett; son, Thomas Lee Barnett; brother, Bruce B. Simmons.

Mrs. Barnett was a member of Frostburg United Methodist Church, The Midlothian Home Makers, which she was a past president, and the Beall High Alumni Association Class of 1945.  Sylvia was an active supporter of Special Olympics of Maryland, March of Dimes and the American Heart Association. She held employment at Frostburg Department Store and The Fidelity Bank, Frostburg.

Surviving are her son, William P. Barnett and wife Monica, LaVale; grandson, Garrett L. Barnett and fiancé Amanda Carney; brother, Robert Simmons and wife Bernadette, Chesapeake, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, MD, on Thursday, May 19, 2016, from 2 - 4 pm and 6 -8 pm

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on, Friday, May 20, 2016 at 1 pm with Pastor Daniel Montague officiating.

Interment will be held in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are William Barnett, Garrett Barnett, Bruce Simmons Jr., Derek Simmons, Scott Simmons and Bryan Diehl.  Honorary Pallbearer is Robert Simmons.
