Vernon Lowery

Vernon Allen Lowery passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021.

Vernon was born on June 24, 1936 in Ellerslie, MD. He was the eldest son of the late Dorothy (Hosselrode) and Roy “Bill” Lowery. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Jack W “Spider” Lowery; niece, Whitney Layes Morrow; brother-in-law, John E. Walsh and a sister-in-law, Judi O’Baker.

Vernon was a 1954 graduate of Allegany High School where he excelled in sports especially football and basketball. He was known as a great fast pitch softball pitcher. He was also the pitcher and manager for many years of the Ellerslie Softball Team. After graduating from high school he joined the Army and served for three years mostly in Germany and Colorado. After his discharge from the Army he worked and retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company

He is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Sandra (Winebrener) Lowery and his brother, Rich Lowery. He is also survived by his deceased brother Jack’s family, 4 brother-in-law’s, 5 sister-in-law’s and their families.

Many thanks to the UPMC Western Maryland Hospice for their wonderful care of Vernon. Also thanks to Janet Thompson for all her help and understanding.

Vernon was a very loving and much loved husband. He will be missed forever and a day.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 11:00 A.M., at Mount Savage United Methodist Cemetery with Rev. Sandy Burchel officiating.
