Darlene Juanita Shelton, of Frostburg MD was born on September 5, 1935 to the late George Waites and Georgia Juanita Harper.  Her loving mother and father nurtured her deep and abiding faith in God.  Accepting Jesus Christ in her life at an early age fueled her lifelong love of serving the Lord.

Darlene worked several jobs throughout her lifetime with her first being an Assistant Nurse in Rochester, NY.  She then worked as a Head Start Teacher and spent her remaining working career at Kids Corner.  She also participated in the Frostburg BRIDGE Program there.  She belonged to many organizations which includes Camp Hope, Frostburg Summer Lunch Box Program and was on the Board of the Frostburg Interfaith Food Pantry.

Darlene loved to cook and feed people, often serving up her delicious potato salad.  She was without doubt a people person who loved to make others happy.  She had multiple hobbies; and loved to talk on the phone, read the Bible, plus other books and the newspaper, coloring and checked out what was on Facebook.  Darlene was a big supporter and follower of the Frostburg Dance Academy, Amy Davis owner/instructor, where both of her granddaughters and daughter attend. She was an active member of the Frostburg Senior Center where she made many friends and enjoyed attending during the weekdays.

Darlene was a faithful servant to the Lord that she Loved and was a devoted member of Dickerson A.M.E. Church, Frostburg, MD.  She served as Trustee ProTem, Steward ProTem, Church School Superintendent and a member of the Fannie Daugherty Women’s Missionary Society.  She wore many hats in the church even those that did not have titles.

On Friday, December 18, 2020, Darlene Juanita Shelton was called to her heavenly home at UPMC Western Maryland.  She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Timmy Shelton and Tara La Rue, a very special friend to him; daughter, Leticia Shelton; grandchildren, Brandi Shelton, Skai Shelton and Michael Femi; great grandchildren, Sterling Shelton and Janoviah Femi; goddaughter, Joy Harper; special bingo partner, Tausha Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
