Dennis Reed

July 13, 1950 — December 8, 2019

Dennis Ray Reed, 69, from Frostburg, Maryland, went home to be with the Lord and the loved ones who preceded him on Sunday, December 8, 2019.

Born on July 13,1950, in Berkeley Springs WV to Harriet Catherine Anglin and William Montgomery Reed.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother Louise H. Kifer; grandfather Freddie E. Kifer; stepbrother Sonny Rhodes; and brother-in-law Virgil “Jack” Frost.

During his time as a child he lived in Ellicott City, Baltimore and Hancock Md before moving to Lonaconing in Allegany County. Denny was a 1970 Graduate of Valley High School where he was an amazing drummer and was always remembered by his classmates as such.

After graduation he moved to Klondike, Md, where he met the love of his life Paula (Frost) Reed and were married August 30, 1974, and just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this past year. During Denny’s life he worked at National Jet Corporation, Kelly Springfield Tire company, a Principal and Counselor at Long Stretch Youth Home, Allegany Ambulance Service, and Loss Prevention for Ames Department store.

He also was an EMT for Georges Creek Ambulance Service and former Captain of Frostburg Area Ambulance as well as was a member of The Western Maryland Crime Search Team and Western Maryland Auxiliary Police.

The main thing Denny will always be remembered for was his amazing talent as a guitar/bass player and drummer and played in several bands such as Don Gibson and the Gibsonaires, Country Fever, Carl Baer and the sounds of Country, Smoky River Breakdown, Gene and Joe and the Country Gentlemen and The Backstreet Band.  Even though he mainly played bass, later in life almost every band he was in somehow persuaded him to get behind the drums to play his famous rendition of wipe out.

Denny Always loved being able to help people as well as his love of music and the love for his family.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Paula Lynne (Frost) Reed; daughters Melody Lynne Price and husband Jason Price and Amanda Catherine Hanekamp and partner Jason Morris; son George A. Locke and wife Carol, long-time family friends Sandy Buckalew and Leo Crissinger; 12 grandchildren, Jessica Porter and husband Noah, Harley Schenck, Hannah Schenck, Dalton Price, Sophia Row, Jacob Row, Christopher Hanekamp, Oden Hanekamp, Jazzalynne Morris, Jayden  Morris, Elizabeth Locke and Waylon Locke; 3 great grandchildren Chase Sheppard, Hudson Porter and Haiden Locke; brothers-in-law Terry Frost and wife Tammy and Jay Frost and wife Nancy; sisters Abbie White, Jolona Fretwell and husband Steve and Lena Joy and husband Randy.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, MD, on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 from 2-5 pm.

Funeral services will be held at 5 pm with Pastor Jim Jeffries officiating.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be sent to First Peoples Federal Credit Union, 17610 National Hwy SW, Frostburg, MD 21532, to help defray the cost of the funeral.
