Doris Taccino

Doris Jean Taccino, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 11, 2020, surrounded by family.

Born on April 7, 1933, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Lydia Alda (Meese) Layman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Samuel M. Layman and William C. Layman, Jr.; sisters, LaVerne Geis and Mary Louise Winfield.

Doris was a member of the 1951 Class of Beall High School.  Following graduation, she was employed by the First National Bank of Maryland, the Savannah Bank and Trust, in Georgia, and retired in 1995 from the Frostburg National Bank.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Frostburg where she was past president of WELCA, member of Farrady Post #24 American Legion Auxiliary, Western Maryland Antique Car Club and was a patient advocate of Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland.

Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Francis Carman “Frank” Taccino. Their favorite song was “They tried to tell us we’re too young”.; children, Brenda Jean Mathews and husband David, Francis Carl Taccino and Angie and Teresa Susan Mathews and husband Gerald; grandchildren, Corey (Megan) Mathews, Shane (Stephanie) Mathews, Zachary (Emily) Mathews, Garrett (Andrea) Mathews, Emily (Shane) Davis, Jenna (David) Gorgol, Frankie Taccino and Alyssa Taccino, Sasha (Matt) Foltz, Megan (Aaron) Kochera; step grandchildren, Savanah Wetzel, Makena Berry, Marlee Berry; great-grandchildren, Easton, Avery, Madison Mathews, Brianna Shaw, Rowan, Parker Mathews, Oliver Mathews, baby girl Mathews, due in August, Natalie, Ike Davis, Mila, Liam Foltz and Hayden, Madelyn Kochera;; brother, Rev. Darrell Layman and wife Mary; sister, Anita Kay Ahalt and husband Jim; sisters-in-law, Elma (Jones) Layman and Anna Mae (Barclay) Layman; numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, Md, on Monday July 13, 2020, from 1-3 pm.  A funeral service will follow at 3 pm with Pastor Karen Crosby officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Corey Mathews, Shane Mathews, Zachary Mathews, Garrett Mathews, Francis Christian Taccino, David Gorgol and Shane Davis.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations, in Doris’ name, be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, P.O Box 227, Frostburg, MD 21532, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 28 West 44th Street, Suite 609, New York, NY 10036 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
