John “Goldie” Goldsworthy

58, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at UPMC Shadyside, in Pittsburgh.

Born on July 18, 1961 in Frostburg MD, he was the son of the late Richard James and Ellen Marie (Devlin) Goldsworthy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Patrick Goldsworthy.

John was a 1979 graduate of Beall High School. After graduation, he was a police cadet for the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office from September 1979 - June 1981. He started working at the Allegany County Detention Center in November of 1983, where he retired in July of 2017.   He studied law enforcement at both Allegany Community College and Baltimore Community College.  

Goldie was a train enthusiast. He loved model railroads. He also loved building model cars and planes. Goldie was known as the “Hell Hill” weatherman and kept everyone informed. His most recent hobby was anything that involved his Mustang.  

Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Jennifer Ann (Boyle) Goldsworthy; son, Aaron James Burks; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Welsh and husband Dakota; grandsons, Isaiah Scott Welsh, Weston John Welsh, and Colton James Welsh; brother, Richard M. Goldsworthy and wife Carol; nephew, Richard Lee Goldsworthy; many cousins; and his beloved dog, Roxie.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, MD, on Monday, July 6, 2020, from 1-4 pm and 5-8 pm.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 10 am with Father Greg Chervenak, OFM, Cap, serving as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Frostburg.

 There will be a celebration of life event held at The Back Farm on Piney Run Road on August 8, at 3 pm.
