Nellie Fisher

June 19, 1943 — June 9, 2022

Nellie Mae Fisher, 78, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 9, 2022, at UPMC Pittsburgh.

Nellie was born on June 19, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Herman W. Winters and Goldie Mae (Skidmore) Winters.

She is survived by her husband of 61+ years, Larry Fisher; two sons, Dennis Lee and Richie Lee; one brother, Herman and wife Lori, their two sons, Nathan, Andrew and girlfriend Gwen; special sister, Linda Walker; niece, Belinda Rae Auvil and husband Jeff, and many nieces and nephews.

She is a lifetime member of Trinity Assembly of God in Midlothian, MD

Nellie is a graduate of Beall High School, Class of 1961, where she was active in sports and several other activities. She attended Cathermans Business School in Cumberland. Upon completion, she was hired by Dave Willetts at Frostburg National Bank, as a teller.

On August 11, 1961, Nellie was married to Larry after almost two years of courtship, by the Reverend James Tate, pastor of Trinity Assembly of God.

She remained a teller at the bank until their first son, Dennis was born on May 18, 1963. She continued to work at the bank until their second son Richie arrived on August 27, 1972.

She was proud that she drove a school bus for Willitts being the first female driver and helped to clean houses for numerous people.

Nellie loved to travel, especially to Florida to visit her mom & dad with her very best friend /sister Linda Walker. Nellie & Larry visited Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary and took both sons along to help them celebrate. Along with her husband and sons they have traveled to every state in the US and visited several providences in Canada. One of their most memorable trips was a vacation to Church Hill Canada to see the Polar bears migration along with her cousins Denny & Donna Hare and best friends Ray & Linda Walker. After Larry’s retirement, Nellie booked a cruise to Alaska and they arrived home the day before the tragedy of 9/11/2001.

She loved camping with good friends Ray & Mona Kallmyer, they would go several times a year and meet up with longtime friends, Paul and the late Cyndy Schieb, from Virginia.

Nellie loved dogs and had many breeds over the years. She raised Golden Retrievers for nine years and was very successful. She loved taking care of Denny & Richie’s, Great Danes as though they were her own while they both were at work, sometimes 10-12 hours a day. Six Great Danes in all.

She was a homemaker, loved baking cookies and had the code name “cookie baker’ on the CB. She kept busy, outside where she loved trimming the grass and tending her small flower garden. She loved shoveling snow in the winter. Cleaning Denny & Richie’s houses and watering their flowers was pure pleasure for her. Nellie and Linda have also maintained the flower beds in front of the Church at Trinity Assembly of God in Midlothian.

Nellie and Larry attended many NASCAR races together. Her favorite driver was Jeff Gordon and her large collection filled one complete bedroom. She had several autographed pictures taken with her favorite driver.

Nellies wishes were to be cremated.
