Norma Miller

January 27, 1937 — March 7, 2020

Norma Jean (Ferguson) Miller

of Frostburg, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020.

Born January 27, 1937 in Westernport, MD, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Ferguson and the late Zella Davis (Ferguson).

Norma joins her husband and love of her life, Clarence “Dale” Miller of Shaft, who died in service to his country in 1966 as a young pilot aboard the USS Oriskany CV 34 while operating in the Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam.

Norma is survived by their daughters, Dawn Elaine Kulas (Bill) of Seattle, WA, Amy Jean DiMisa (Jim) of Sunset Beach, NC and Beth Marie Eichhorn (Tim) of Maryville, TN, and two special nieces, Vicky Layfield (Steve) of Gulf Breeze, FL and Mary Kay Sagal (Mark) of Cumberland, MD. Grandchildren include Christopher DiMisa, Sam DiMisa, Catherine Jacobs (Eric), Caroline Eichhorn, Blake Eichhorn (Kaci), and Madeline Adwell.

Norma is also survived by her loving sister, Toni Dyer (Ferguson) of Frederick, MD, Dale’s brothers, E. Wayne Miller (Nina) of Oakland, MD and Royal Miller (Scott) of Staunton, VA. She is lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Norma was predeceased by her sister Lois Adwell (Ferguson) and her brother, Donald Ferguson.

Norma touched the lives of many. After graduation from Piedmont High School she attended college briefly until she married her best friend in life, Dale.  Together they started their family of three daughters in duty stations across the country from Oceana, VA to Monterey, CA. After Dale’s tragic death, Norma brought their family near to Dale’s hometown in Frostburg and built a home of 52 years. She worked at Kiddie Town and Naturalizer Shoes and raised their daughters. In that time she cared for others as her own and ran the most gracious and loving home always welcoming visitors. After her daughters married and settled across the country she developed friendship circles built around Mountain Chapter No. 15 Order of Eastern Star, Grand Ruth and the Prayer Quilt Ministry Group of FUMC. Norma was a longtime member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church.

A celebration of life will take place at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 12 noon with Pastor Matthew Eichhorn officiating; friends will be received one hour prior to service. Norma will be interred at Frostburg Memorial Park with her husband.
